Is Israel Still Relevant to God Today?
Is the current war in Israel simply God's way of judging it as an immoral modern nation - just like He did in the past? Gateway Center for Israel Executive Director Nic Lesmeister exposes how this erroneous way of thinking overlooks a key component of God's covenantal promises to the Jewish people.
Some people are asking as they watch what’s going on in Israel right now, that if God still has a plan for the Jewish people, then why is this happening? And the reason they’re asking that in some ways is because they’re saying, look, the Jewish people aren’t following Jesus. They’re not even really in relationship with God. There’s all this immorality in the country, in the nation of Israel. So of course this is divine punishment because God has divinely punished Israel in the past.
This is overlooking a key component of what God’s covenantal promises are to the Jewish people. It’s cherry picking scriptures that you’re using to uphold the theological framework that is wrong, that’s antisemitic, and it’s unbiblical. That’s replacement theology.
The Bible is clear when you read Ezekiel 36, that God’s going to regather the Jewish people. And then it says, then I will sprinkle clean water on them and make them pure. So if we think we understand the ways of God, and if we think that somebody has to be righteous before God makes a decision that they’re righteous on the basis of his committed love to them, then we’re taking the part of being God and we’re over-exalting ourselves in our understanding.
The thing we need to do right now is to pray for the Jewish people. We don’t understand all the components at play here. We just know that God loves them. We know that he cares about them. We know that he wants to come and rule and reign among them sitting on a throne in Jerusalem where he will bring a kingdom of peace and justice and love for everybody. Let’s contend for that and let’s stop trying to figure out what God is doing in and out of geopolitical wars. Let’s have a heart of compassion and love people and stand with God and pray with people so that the purposes of God can be advanced on this earth and we can all enjoy his presence forever.
